Meteor Crater
50,000 years ago a nickel-iron meteorite 150 feet across (50 meters) crashed into the area at 26000+ mph (15,000 kph) creating a crater aprroximately one mile wide (1,200 meters) by 600 feet (170 meters) deep. The amount ofexpanded energy was equal to 10 megatons. This is the best preserved impact crater on the planet.
